Last June, Jake Anderson, Kristen Fisher, and Zach Martin (pictured at
right) went on a 6 day tour of our nation's capital with all expenses paid
by Callaway Electric Cooperative. The three Callaway County High
School Juniors joined over 75 juniors from across Missouri for a jam packed
week of touring and fun in Washington, D.C.
This national program sponsored by electric cooperatives across the country
has been in place for over 40 years. It was started to help educate
America's youth about our nation's capital, and about the Rural Electric
Cooperative System. In 2010, Missouri delegates will meet up with
nearly 2000 other students to see sights such as the Washington Monument,
the Smithsonian Museums, the Lincoln, Korean, Vietnam, and Jefferson
Memorials, Mt. Vernon and the US Capitol.
The program will continue in 2010 and we are currently seeking applicants
for our contest.
You probably are wondering how we award the trip and how the contest works. Don't worry - it is not a complicated process and with a little effort and
work on your part, you could be off to D.C. on an adventure of a lifetime.
You will not want to miss this great opportunity, so check out the details
below and click the button at the top to fill out an entry form for the
contest.

The Youth Tour Contest is

How
are winners selected?
The essays will be judged
and the top six will be chosen a final
competition to be held at Callaway Electric's Office
at 1313 Cooperative Drive in April. This consists of a written
test and interview with three impartial judges.
The
combined essay, written test and interview score will be totaled and the
three finalists with the top scores will be selected for
the Youth Tour to Washington, D.C. The three runners-up will be
awarded tuition to a 3-day leadership conference to be held in Jefferson
City in July. The conference will be sponsored by Missouri's Electric
Cooperatives.
All contestants are placed according to their final score: 100 points from the essay, 100 from the written test, and a final
100 points from the interview. |
