Generation
Callaway Electric
Cooperative is a distribution cooperative. However, it owns a part of a
generation cooperative, just as members of Callaway Electric Cooperative own it.
Along with the other electric cooperatives in Missouri, and parts of Iowa and
Oklahoma, Callaway Electric Cooperative owns part of Associated Electric Cooperative, Inc. located in Springfield, Missouri.
Associated Electric
Cooperative, Inc. owns and operates two coal-fired plants in Missouri to provide
most the needed power. One is located near Moberly, Missouri and is called
Thomas Hill Energy Center. It produces 1,153 megawatts from its three generating
units. The other operation is at New Madrid, Missouri, and it produces 1,200
megawatts from its two generating units. New natural gas fired peaking
units are being brought online in the next few years to help supply our future
needs.
Electric power is
transmitted through six transmission cooperatives that reduce the high-voltage
power to levels that can be used by local distribution cooperatives. Central Electric Power Cooperative in Jefferson City, Missouri, transmits
power to Boone Electric
Cooperative, Callaway Electric, Central Missouri Electric Cooperative, Co-Mo Electric Cooperative, Consolidated Electric Cooperative, Cuivre River Electric Cooperative, Howard Electric Cooperative, and Three Rivers Electric Cooperative. |
